Ja(new)uary

Updated: May 26, 2021

It seems the weather here is mirroring that of most people's sentiments in the new year with a cleansing week of rain. As we enter into the first month of 2019 the earth itself is washing away the old and creating a path for the new. I am always surprised at how "the universe" in some way can know exactly what you need even if you might not know it yourself.

January is also my birthday month which means I get to "start fresh" again. This seems to resonate with me a bit more this year as I continue to seek balance and set new resolutions for the year. One of the biggest things I would like to focus on this year is being present and enjoying the moment. AND take good care of myself so that I can best take care of my family and others. I have definitely been known to get caught up in my "to do" list a time or two and this year I'd like to be more conscious of having fun!!! Even while doing the not so fun stuff :)

With that in mind, I've had fun this week preparing for the start of something new. I've found a few things along the way that make this wife/Mom/design lover happy. Check out my current mood, and let me know what things make you happy. I'd love to hear your feedback!

1and 3: This is the first year that I have actually invested in a skincare routine! I know, I know... I should have done this ages ago, but I always tended to be the "quick" make-up gal and really didn't want to invest too much time into my bedtime routine... it took away from sleep time ya know? Dun, da, dahhhhhhh.... then Beauty Counter found me, and I am loving the easy charcoal mask and the hydrating tint skin foundation. These products are actually making my make-up time quicker. 2: When my husband and I stayed at the Rancho Bernardo Inn we walked the property and stopped into the spa. It smelled heavenly in there, and I was inspired to try and have my own spa moments at home. It may not be a massage and a jacuzzi session, but slowing down for a few minutes during the morning routine sounds pretty good to me. I found this aromatherapy spray you can spritz in the shower ( will I do it? ) There are lots of different kinds and you can pick the scent you want (Eucalyptus for me), but I can easily fit this into my morning routine and it does relax me. (I did it!)

4 and 9: A place I have wanted to go, but just haven't gotten around to is Colorado. I know it's not that far, but it just hasn't worked its way into the schedule yet. Stay tuned for more posts on this...

5 One thing I know that I often forget to do when I am chasing around my "mini-me" is to drink enough water. You know how people go out and buy themselves super cute workout clothes to try and make themselves get to the gym??? Maybe that will work for water bottles. If it's in a pretty bottle I'll drink more of it, right?

6 It's cold. I'm a wimp when it comes to the cold. Give me the sherpa... :)

7 I have one hat pretty enough to hang on the wall... it's just that pretty. It was a splurge and I never regretted it.

8 I'm always looking for a good backpack where I can stash all my snacks for my daughter and everything won't come spilling out when I go to pick her up. A ton of people have asked me recently where I got my bag. Shhhh. It will be our little secret. Click pic below to find out.

10 And finally, one of the things I'd like to continue to do this year is to write. I have always enjoyed the process and hope I can continue to find time to fit it into my routine this year. Let me know if there are any topics you guys think would be interesting.

xo,

Lylah

P.S. Go get 'em.
